Interestingly, when the names of popes are rendered in Japanese text (romaji), they use the Latin forms. So instead of John Paul II, they say Johannes Paulus II (Yohane Pauro nisei)(ヨハネ・パウロ２世). Benedict XVI becomes Benedicto (ベネディックト16世).
