Sony is being annoying

More and more, I believe Sony has lost their way. Sure, sure, there is plenty of evidence in the big screw ups -- rootkits, the content division driving the decisions of the hardware division (Blu-ray, anyone?) but even in the little things, they're going for the profits rather than customer goodwill.

Right now, I'm watching the DaVinci code on a rented DVD. (I just wanna see what all the fuss is about.) It started out with the usual unskippable anti-piracy warnings, this one specifically including "uploading" in the banned acts. However, after the warning screens, there were several minutes of UNSKIPPABLE PREVIEWS and COMMERCIALS.

Damn.

Who does this anymore?

No skipping, no jump to menus, you can't even STOP the damned thing. At least I could still fast-forward. The day they take that away...

The RENT disc was the same way. However, this may just be their rental discs; I have not had the inclination to buy a Sony Pictures DVD in a while. (Lack of money, already own too much crap to send home, etc.) We'll see if I get the urge to pick up Casino Royale.

Oh, and although Japanese disc subtitles are always done in white, on this disc, the English subtitle track is in this crappy yellow color. I have heard that this is the standard on US DVDs. I'm not impressed...
